Blog friday 12/10/10

1. Religion- Religion change from the middle ages to the Renaissance by instead of everything revolving around the pope and what he said people could get the same worlds from the bible.
Towns/Cities- In the middle ages you either live in the castle or you lived on the farms, and in the Renaissance you live in you home/villa and you can go onto the streets of the city.
Peasants- In the middle age there were peasants but when the renaissance came there was like three main classes, lower class, middle class, higher class.
2. I think that the most important of all three of my groups is religion. I think that religion was the most important because if the bible hadn't of been made then i think people would still be going to the pope and not looking for the same words that the pope would speak in the bible. Now people could turn to a book for there problems and not to a person, they didn't have to go to the church to get advice.
3. Religion change from the middle ages to the Renaissance from having a pope to tell you what to do and what but now you can go to the bible for the same information. This was made possible because of the printing press. Now with the rise in bibles and people had to learn to read which lead to higher education in the people.
4. I think that Copernicus was a very important person and made a very important discovery for earth. Copernicus said that the sun is the center of the universe. This was important because this lead to so many more discoveries.
5. When i was six years old and we had just moved into our new house. My brother and me were swimming in the pool but i did not know how to swim so i stayed in the sallow end. When i was running around the pool with my dog my brother pushed me into the deep end of the pool. The idea of having a blank slate would almost make sense because of the fact i practice in the sallow end of the pool and then when my brother pushed my into the deep end i had that little bit of info (of how to swim) in me. So i knew how to swim.

Macbeth

I believe that Duncan is a good king. I think this because he has respect for others and good virtues this is shown by Macbeth when he says "First, as i am his kinsman and his subject, strongboth against the deed; then, as his host, who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself. Besides this Duncan hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been so clear in his great office, that his virtues will plead like angels, trumpet-tongued against the deep damnation of his taking-off, and pity, like a naked new-born babe, striding the blast, or heavens cherubin, horsed upon the slightest couriers of the air, shall blow the horrid deed in every eye" (1.7 13-24)

One of the quotes that i think describes Macbeth with a Machiavelli quote is "That tears shall drown the wind, i have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition which o'erleaps itslef and falls on th'other." I think this describes Macbeth because he has no spur but to him lady Macbeth is his spur which says about Macbeth that he is weak and he cannot kill or in the play the way his wife says it, he is not a man.

Shakespeare's Macbeth Act 1

Appearance vs Reality
Appearance vs Reality happens many time throughout the first act. A example of this is in 1.5 line 40-51 "And fill me from the crown to the top-full of direst cruelty. Make think my blood, stop up th'acess and passage of remourse, that no compunctious visitings of nature shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between th'effect and it. come to my woman;s breasts, and take my milk for gall, you murd'ring ministers, wherever in you sightless substances you wait on natures mischief. Come, think night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell. That my keen knife see not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep through the blacnket of the dark to cry 'HOLD, HOLD!'"
This quote shows that lady Macbeth wants the strength of a man to be able to murder king Duncan. Lady Macbeth wants the ability of a man becuase men are warriors, they are strong, the provider of the family, while women and weak, they stay at home, and obey the men.
Gender Roles
The Gender Roles in this age were very simple. In This age the men are the warriors, providers, and they go out to make money and get food for the family. The women stay at home with the maid and take care of the children and are ready to please the men in anyway possible when they come home.
Loyalty and Honor
In this story loyalty and honor play a huge rule. To have honor and be loyal a example of how important it was to these people to be honored and loyal is 1.5 lines 3-7 "My liege, they are not yet come back. But i have spoke with one that saw him die, who reported that very frankly he confessed his treasons, implored you nighness' pardon, and set forth a deep repentance." This is a Example of Malcom talking to his father, king Duncan about how MacDonald was put to death because he betrayed the king and MacDonald was confessing to his betrays to he and die a honorable death.

Machiavelli: Quotes for leaders

Machiavelli was born may 3, 1469, in Florence, Italy. Machiavelli lived for politics and patriotism. In 1513 Machiavelli wrote "The Prince" which is one of the most famous books known today. Even though the book was not cherished and prized for the words that it speaks in 1500's it is a huge books on leading and power and is read by many leaders around the world. Machiavelli had a very nondescript life and didn't have any interest in politics until his met prince Cesare Borgia. Borgia was a cunning, cruel man, very much like the Prince in the book. Through Machiavelli's life politics influence him too the point were he wrote a book.

"Hatred is gained as much by good works as it is by evil." I think that this quote has a relationship to leadership today because every leader in the world has people that love them and people that hate them and no matter what you do there will always be unhappy people. If you make a choice to tax more to the rich and less to the poor the rich will hate you and the poor with love you.

"Before all else be armed." Today i don't think that this would be a good quote for leaders because even though it is good to be armed in to defend yourself, it is also good to have good means to talk your way out of a situation and not get into a fight but instead make a compromise and agree over things instead of fire, ready, aim.

"Before all else be armed" If the Incas knew this quote and followed it the probably would of easily won against Pizarro because one of the reason they lost is because the leader of the Incas thought that he would already beat Pizarro but then he thought that if he when against Pizarro with no weapons, then he would be admired forever. So the leader of the Incas went to fight Pizarro with no weapons or anything just his people. Even tho it was 80,000 vs 168 the Incas had no weapons and could not defend themselves against Pizarro and that why I think that this quote would of helped the Incas.

I work at a hardware store stacking shelves and helping customers. My Boss is my leader and is my leader mostly just because of the fact that she is my boss. She is always yelling at me to be nicer to people and help all the customers that I can, stack more things onto the shelves, work harder. I like having this type of leader/ boss because she pushes me to do more and I always know what to do because if I am not doing it right then I’ll get yelled at, I also like this type of leader because at the end of the day I know the I have done a good days work because I had been working basically for 8 hours straight with only one 45 minute break. This type of leader is stricted, but keeps you working throughout the day and at least make me feel like I have actually done something when I gone home after work.
